Coming in 2015, CMD’s Mentor-Protégé Program(MPP) is designed to encourage and motivate prime contractors to assist CMD certified Micro-Local Business Enterprise (LBE) firms and enhance their capability of performing successfully on City and County of San Francisco contracts and subcontracts. The goal is to increase the overall number of LBEs receiving City and County contract awards, resulting from mentor ship and refined business practices.

- Organizational/Structural Needs
- Leadership Development Needs

- Networking/Business Community Engagement Needs
Who is a Mentor?
A Mentor is a successful prime consultant or contractor with the capability to mentor small businesses in the area of capacity building in order to successfully bid or propose on City contracts.
Who is a Protégé?
A Protégé is a CMD Micro-LBE Certified business in the fields of construction and architecture/engineering (A/E) seeking technical and managerial assistance to develop capacity in order to achieve entrepreneurial success and contribute to the strength and vigor of the San Francisco economy.

Mentor Protégé Program Team Selection Process
The Mentor/Protégé program will include the participation of 10 Mentor/Protégé teams, 5 from professional services (A/E) and 5 from Construction.
A. All prospective Mentors or Protégés must first complete the application as shown above.
B. Application submitted by the deadline will be reviewed by CMD.
C. Approved Mentor and Protégé applications will be posted on this website and applicants will also be notified via e-mail.
D. Approved Mentors and Protégés will outreach to each other based on the Mentor’s experience and the Protégé’s needs with the goal of forming a Mentor/Protégé team.
E. Each Mentor/Protégé team will submit a letter of interest summarizing why the Mentor and Protégé make a good match, and what the Protégé can gain from working with their prospective Mentor.
F. Ten teams will be randomly selected from the pool of teams submitted, five for construction services and five for professional services (A/E).
G. The selected Mentor/Protégé teams will submit MOU to the MPP Steering Committee stating objectives, goals, and deliverables from both Mentor and Protégé for the duration of the MPP cycle.
